My name is Abednego. I’m a healthy seven-year-old boy. I had a very bad skin condition when I first came to the home but it’s slowly getting better. I’m in the first grade at school. I’m a little behind and I have trouble concentrating on schoolwork but my teacher thinks I’m doing OK. Maths is my best subject.  I’m a little bit quiet in the home and I like to be alone but I’m starting to play and share with the other children.  I love to draw and to play with toy cars. Playing soccer is one of my favourite activities. My big brother lives here, too. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Anuradha and I am in Kindergarten. My sister also lives in the Miraj Children’s Home.  I am quiet natured and I enjoy spending time with my friends and I like to play with the girls in the Home and I also enjoy painting. My name is David. I'm in fifth grade in school. I like to climb mountains, go on picnics, go for walks, read to adults, sing songs and eat chicken and duck. I also like to draw. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Ernesto and I’m a ten-year-old boy. This year I moved schools to attend the centre school. I’ve settled in well since I know all the children in my class but this is quite a change for me- from a small private school to a large school with about 500 students. I’m in sixth grade and need to concentrate better at school especially with literacy. I’m careful with my belongings and appearance. I like to be active and I love to ride the bike but I also I love to sleep in! I’m learning guitar (slowly) and learning computer and English. All these activities keep me busy and out of trouble. My name is Grace. My parents have both passed away, but I have two older brothers. I'm in fourth grade at school. My health is good. I’ve only been in Hope House for a little while, since November 2009, but my carers say I am cooperative, appreciative and quiet. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Jeremiah. My mother and father are village farmers. I graduated from school at 6^th grade. I am happy, optimistic, playful, sincere and friendly. I like music and cooking and I like to play ping pong and listen to stories. I also enjoy reading the bible. My favourite foods are chinese vegetables. I am crippled from the waist down and have some problems with my hands and vocal chords. I can cope doing basic life tasks but I need help to walk up and down the stairs. My name is Joseph. I have an older brother. I am outgoing, happy, talkative and a bit mischievous. I'm in fourth grade in school and doing very well. My favourite subject in school is arithmetics. I like to play ping pong and I enjoy riding a bicycle when I get the chance. My favourite foods are chicken and duck. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Josiah. I’m 6 years old. I’m in Year 1 at school and my favourite subjects are Maths, Mandarin and Science. When I have some free time, after school or on the weekend, I like to watch TV and on holidays I like to sleep in. I also have chores to do such as cleaning the dining table, taking the rubbish out, making up my bed and tidying up my books. My favourite food? That’s hard to say because I like all kinds of food! But I do especially like donuts. I’m interested in everything and I like to play a lot; I’m very active and independent. I would really like to learn how to ride a bike and how to play soccer. My name is Lija. I am friendly and outgoing and I love to be the centre of attraction. Unfortunately, loving to chat rather than work does note improve my schoolwork. I'm in sixth grade in school. I need lots more practise with my reading and maths. I am also learning English, computer and keyboard. There is a new carer and I get along well with her. I like to please her and to help with the duties in our dormitory. My best friend here is Joanina.  She is like a big sister to me and we love getting into fashion. My health has not been so good this year possibly due to being around more children and different diseases. I am still skinny even though I have plenty to eat. It does not stop me from being very active around the centre. I love to play with my dolls but I am also trying to learn to ride the bike. I am quite fearless when the boys do let me have a go! My name is Mahadavi and I am in Standard 1 at school. I have an older brother. I am playful, energetic and loving and I always smile! One of my favourite foods to eat is chicken. I have made some new friends in the Miraj children’s home and I like to play with the other girls in the home. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Moses. My favourite subjects are Maths, Computers and Science. I enjoy learning and I want to know more about computers. When I have free time after school I like to watch TV and on the weekends I like to sleep in. I also have chores to do at home. I help to clean the house every Saturday, I wash the plates at night and I wash my own clothes. I love all kinds of food, especially spaghetti. Others have described me as a leader. I’m also relaxed and loving, and I appreciate what I’ve been given. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Oscar. I am attending school and my favourite subject is Maths. When I have free time after school I like to watch TV and on the weekends I like to sleep in. I also have chores to do at home. I help clean the dining table, take out the rubbish, make my own bed and tidy up my own books. My favourite food is gado-gado. That’s vegetables mixed with eggs - all boiled & eaten with peanut sauce. Yum! I’m happy but I sometimes cry and I catch colds easily, too. I’m curious and adventurous; I would really like to learn how to roller blade! Thank you for caring for me. 

My name is Pornima. I was born in the state of Miraj and I speak Marathi. I have one sister. I enjoy learning English at school. I have had a medical checkup and I am healthy. My favourite food is the special sweets we have on Sunday. I am inquisitive and curious and I like to play with the other girls in the Miraj home. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Richard. I love playing with toy cars and my carer says that once I have one in my hand, I am in my “own little world”. I began formal schooling in 2007. Recently, I enjoyed a holiday in the mountains, a safari trip and riding in a horse-wagon with the other kids from Jakarta. Thank you for caring for me.

My name is Rivira. I am a healthy, contented and happy girl and I make friends easily. I am very talkative. I do not go to school yet.  I like to play with the other children in the home, play with the dolls in the home and watch television. I like to eat all the food that we are given in the home.  My father and mother are divorced and my mother cannot afford to care for me. I have a younger sister who lives with my father’s family. My name is Ruth. I am a quiet, obedient, studious girl. When I'm not studying, you may find me washing dishes, sweeping the floor, doing chores, drawing, or singing. I like housework, climbing mountains, playing ball, reading, occasionally watching TV and playing the recorder. I would like to learn piano. Foods I like include cake, fruit, milk, bread, fish, beef, green vegetables, chicken, and you tiao (a kind of deep-fried bread). I like to play with dolls, balloons and other toys.
